One (or two) of the best remedies to a broken heart is… stay busy and tired.

For that reason, it’s good to be back at the base. Meeting all these not so new people, trying to make friends and getting to know everybody. Not much things to do at the base just yet. But, good news is, I’ll embark soon. I’ll go off-shore for the first time. Most probably I’ll spend the New Year’s Eve on the rig.

Great, I want to know how living on off-shore rigs really is. I hope I’ll enjoy it. And I want to go offshore as much as possible now, so that I get lots of days-off. And then I would like to go home even if it’s only for a short time. Miss home so much.

Well, in case I don’t have time to make a new post soon, I’d like to wish you Happy New Year… my best wishes for the coming year; success, happiness… and hopefully each of us can be a better person next year.

6 pm

Sitting alone at the corner of a busy district. Drinking my coffee. So there it goes. Tomorrow will be my last day in London. Thursday I’m going to fly back to Brazil, facing the reality, living my life, living my work.

Booked a bed at a hostel in Rio for Thursday and Friday. Would like to take a tour of the city on Friday, and then take the van back to Macae on Saturday. The place where I live, where I work. Gotta accept that fact. Improve my Portuguese, for my own sake. To make life easier.

It’s been quite an extraordinary week.
Performed below expectations in my final project. But yet got the 2nd place in my class in the final result.
Had a constant and tiring fight with one of my group member.
Got criticized and yet praised by my instructor during the exit interview and appraisal.
Had a really really great time with my classmates.

Cried when it’s time to say good bye to a very nice friend.
That’s the furthest I can go in expressing my feelings. Words are no longer important.
I hope you understood.

But I’m letting things go. Thanks to an Indonesian friend that accompanied me walking around London for two and half days, I didn’t have enough time and energy to feel sad the whole time.

You made me want to become a better person. Who knows what is going to happen in my life next. Life can be very unpredictable. Most probably I won’t see you again, and that’s fine for me. I miss you a lot now, but I know that I’ll move on eventually. I know I’ll be okay.

8.30 pm

Signing in to my hotmail account cause I need to send an email to this hostel in Rio. Surprised to see there’s an email from him, saying he’s thinking of changing his flight and coming back early to London and spend more days here before going back to his home country. He asked me how he can contact me so we can meet up. This email was sent a day after he left London.

Why? Is Barcelona not good enough for you? Do you hate traveling alone that much?

My heart jumped at the thought that I might see him again. But wait, I replied the email too late. Where’s he now? Did he decide to stay or to come back here? And even if he came, we only have time to meet tomorrow for a couple of hours before I have to go to the airport to catch my flight. Oh no, if only my flight is on Friday instead of Thursday…

Wait a minute! This is all his fault. Why should he change his mind at the last moment? Why didn’t he ask for my number earlier on?
Geez, I hate what he’s doing to me.

The next day, which is today…

When I woke up in the morning, my feeling was telling me: No, you’re not gonna meet him again today. The email doesn’t mean anything. Just forget it.

Nevertheless, I stopped by internet cafes several times today (even though the major purpose was to send emails to people at my locations). Check my mobile many many times.
And no signs of him.

I dont want to be the stupid fool again this time...

Ehemm... probably it's better to just ignore my previous post. I was in a terrible mood at that time I wrote it. Too tired+lack of sleep+stress+being hammered with questions.
Now I feel much better.
My instructor said that he is very pleased and that we all are doing good for the 1st project. I guess I worried too much or setting my standard too high. My bad.
Anyway, my one and only girl friend here (which is my classmate, flatmate, shopping partner, etc) was so sad yesterday. The thing is, she is having a fling with a guy from another class in our training centre. And the guy had to fly back home yesterday. Well, that guy is supposed to go this weekend, but he failed in his exams for the 2nd time last saturday so he has to leave the training centre on Monday. It happened so fast. He found out that he has to leave on Monday, got a few hours to pack his things and say goodbye, and that's it. I didnt even know that he had left until Monday afternoon.
Sometimes this company is just so mean. So so mean.

Baru abis selesai presentasi project yang pertama.
I’m shaking all over, gara2 tadi malam dan tadi pagi minum red bull.
Aku juga bisa jadi the biggest jerk ever for my teammates.
Ah whatever…

Ga kerasa lho, udah masuk minggu ke-6. Tiga minggu lagi, mungkin, (mudah2an… Amiin) selesai terus balik ke Macae.

Am I looking forward to that?
Well, I don’t know… Kayaknya akhir2 ini hidup berjalan tanpa banyak mikir macem2.
Macae… Newark… what’s the difference anyway? They are all distant places far away from home and people that I care about.

I’m just so tired now. Tiap hari tidur rata2 2-3 jam… Nanti malam nyampe rumah mau langsung tidur… Or maybe not? Mungkin makan di luar?

What’s the point of celebrating though, kalo hasilnya ga terlalu bagus?

Arrrrggggghhhh

It’s been three weeks now…

And last Friday I almost failed in my exam.
Last week we studied about drilling. A guy from other company came to teach us.
In the beginning of the week, I was excited about the idea of studying drilling. Finally I would get the chance to know what’s really going on at the rig (before cementing crew arrived). But later on I was a bit disappointed about this drilling course. First, the slides are a big mess; lots of things are wrong and confusing. Second, the materials that we have to study are just VERY BIG. Third, since the course was taught by an outsider, sometimes I got the feeling that he didn’t really care about whether we’ve understood the things he taught us or not. The guy is actually very smart and has lots of experience. He is a retired drilling engineer and has been working in oil and gas industry all his life.

Friday morning, the day that we had our exam, I had a terrible feeling that I may fail that day. I was nervous; I suddenly felt that I was not prepared for the exam. Some guys in my class convince me by saying that the test shouldn’t be too difficult and that I shouldn’t be too worried about it.

And, you know what, the test was indeed difficult! Okay, let’s put it this way: some questions are hard, and honestly I didn’t expect the questions to be that hard. But, some others are just stupid and mean!

Suddenly I was sweating and was so nervous. (That time I promised myself that I won’t drink Red Bull again before an exam!) We had 50 questions, and to pass (75%) I must answer at least 38 questions correctly. I even already asked my instructor (the guy who normally teach us) what will happen if I fail this time.

Well, finally in the end it turned out that I passed with 78%, which means most probably only one question there saving me from failing in the exam. Geez, that was close!!

Anyway, three guys from my class failed. I felt very sorry for them. Because all of us have been studying hard for this thing; and it is the questions in the test that are just so unfair.

We’re not the 1st class who had problems with drilling week btw. It’s been quite common that a lot of people fail in their drilling week. I don’t understand why something hasn’t been done yet to change this.

More on the brighter side; yesterday, one day after the test, our class went to Alton Towers, a theme park about 2 hours drive from Newark. My only girl friend in the class took her boyfriend (he’s from another class) in the trip, so I have to stick with the guys from my class by myself and follow their plan for the day, which includes: ROLLER COASTERS ALL DAY LONG… hahaha :))

It was great though, I enjoyed it a lot. I didn’t take a lot pics (don’t know why guys, I’ve been losing the motivation of taking pics lately). There are like 5 roller coasters, and we rode all of them off course. We even rode some of them two-three times… Good thing I didn’t feel dizzy afterwards… But I think now I’m losing my voice due to screaming too much… :)

I got a Tigger fluffy doll (I don’t think it’s called a doll, but I can’t think of anything else to call it). Very happy about it.

A friend of mine got a gigantic dog after he won a game of shooting basketball into a basket, and he had to carry the thing around… hahaa… it was very funny…

My friend’s BF was even worse, he got a stunning yellow fish which is even longer than his height… =)

At the end of the day, my Japanese friend (who used to be very afraid of roller coasters) had become an adrenaline junkie. =)

My prayer for today, I wish that my class will stay together until the end of this course and nobody will leave before that time.

Udah 2 minggu di sini… a little city in England called Newark.
So far life’s been quite fun. Our class is small, just 9 people, but we had quite a good time in the class.

A lot of materials to read and learn. Weekdays are a bit crazy; doing almost nothing but studying. Long long nights with countless cups of coffee… Sleep 1-3 hours per day. Working on homeworks and presentations, just like the old days in Uni =)

Best time of the week is Saturday afternoon, after finishing our weekly exam.

So far I enjoy the things that I'm studying here. Gotta thank Pak Dicky for choosing this segment for me. It has a lot of 'chemistry' and 'design' in it.

Semoga semua akan berjalan lancar seterusnya. I like my friends here.

Trip nya adalah: Rio-Lisbon-London Heathrow. Nyampe London jam 10.45 pagi. Diperkirakan nyampe sore2.

Oh well, itu RENCANA ideal-nya. Kenyataannya adalah…

Pesawat dari Rio telat nyampe Lisbon. I missed my flight yang ke London Heathrow.

On the second flight, I decided to sleep.

Arrived in London Gatwick on time. As what I’ve been afraid of, luggage ku ga ada.
Hiks… my nightmare comes true. GRR… mo marah2 sama orang TAP.

Akhirnya, there’s nothing more we can do, selain submit report dan berharap luggage bakal dikirim besok.

No jacket, it’s getting late and it’s getting very cold. It’s not possible to do shopping now due to two reasons: first, I have to catch my trains, and second, it’s Sunday; most stores are already closed.
I need to take a shower. But all my toiletries are in the luggage.
My lock cable for laptop is in the luggage.
My coveralls, boots, helmet, etc are in the luggage. And also are my handbook and my other books.
How am I going to start my school tomorrow without all these things?
I haven’t rehearsed the presentation. What if my turn is tomorrow?
I haven’t read enough material for maintenance evaluation. What if we have a test tomorrow?
I don’t have the British three-pin plug. How can I charge my laptop battery?
And in confusions, I suddenly forgot the PIN for my Indonesian mobile number and now the number is blocked cause I entered the wrong PIN three times.

Ok, basically, I’m in a deep shit.

So you know what happen in the end? To get to Newark, I had to change trains twice. First time, I had 15 minutes. I found a shop that sell jacket and was running like crazy picking up jackets. I picked one without thinking much, very crazyyy!! I didn’t even know if it’s cheap or expensive, good or bad. One thing only: it so cold here, I need a jacket!! So it was 5 minutes shopping and 10 minutes half running for the next train.

And then, in King’s Cross, the same thing, I found a small shop, bought soap and shampoo (without looking at the brand at all!! Hehe) and was running here and there to find the platform!

Geez, what an experience…

Nelpon this contact person from Sherwood Apartment, he said he’ll meet me there in 5 minutes.
Took a taxi, a bit surprised soalnya supir taksi nya ibu2 tua gitu (udah hampir nenek-nenek).

Arrived in apartment, safe and sound. Guess what, contact person (org yang tanggung jawab) sama apartemen kita namanya Reza, and yesss… he is INDONESIAN. Ya ampuun kebetulan banget!!!!

I lived with three other girls from my company. They are from Algeria, Angola, and Mexico.

I pray that everything will be ok tomorrow in the school. No test, no presentation, no practicals, just lectures the whole day (am crossing my fingers for this!!)
Mudah2an luggage nyampe (kalo engga, gawat abis!)
Hopefully I’ll meet nice people here, have a good experience, and can do well in the school.
Aminn…

Sometimes I feel like I am shouting in an empty street.

Gosh. I hope that this will not last forever.
Hari ini mood sedang bagus deh. Alhamdulillah.
Pertama, mulai ngerasa tune-in ama temen2 cowokku, bocah-bocah bandel itu... :)
Kedua, managerku bilang, aku ga perlu buat presentasi sebelum berangkat... asik...asik...
Ketiga, an engineer was being very nice, dia bilang mau pinjemin jaketnya supaya aku ga usah bingung-bingung gimana dan di mana harus beli jaket winter hari sabtu entar...

Thank you people, for making my heart so happy today!

Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten

Time to sing now; nice lyrics btw.

I am unwritten
Can't read my mind
I'm undefined
I'm just beginning
The pen's in my hand
Ending unplanned

[Chorus 1]
Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words
That you could not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

[Chorus 2]
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition
Sometimes my tries
Are outside the lines
We've been conditioned
To not make mistakes
But I can't live that way

Back to [Chorus 1] and [Chorus 2]

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten

Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten
Yesterday was such a nice day. It’s lebaran day, btw.
Semuanya, met Hari Raya Idul Fitri ya, mohon maaf lahir batin...

(but, no dark spots are visible yet, jadi anggep masih baik aja deh… hahaha)

Hari ini ulang tahun Matheus, jadi mereka mau barbeque-an. Aku diajak, dan tentunya aku mau banget dong. It would be a great way to spend the day.

FYI, orang sini demen banget barbeque-an. For them, a normal party will consist of barbeque (with lots of meat), loud music, and alcoholic drinks. And, a normal house usually has a built in stove/grill outside to do barbeque.

Wah ternyata mereka tu gila and cacat2 abis deh. Tapi lucu aja buat aku. Interesting. They just don’t care about anything. Bayangin ya, begitu nyampe, one of them langsung nyambungin selang ke keran air dan selang diiket ke langit2 teras (kebayang ga ya).
Trus all of them (seriously) langsung buka kaos karena kegerahan (orang sini kalo udah di rumah demen banget buka2 kaos and stay bare-chested… Waktu di Aracaju juga gitu)

One of them is even worse, dia buka celana pendek juga, jadi (literally, guys) dia cuma pake underwear doang. OMG, I was so shocked at the beginning, but I tried to act cool dong, and tried not to look at his… (you know what, right guys?)
Sebenernya yang bikin shock juga, nobody said anything, which means that using only your undies in a barbeque is considered VERY NORMAL here. Gosh…

Trus ya, makan-makan, barbeque, dancing with the music, dst.
Oh ya, one thing more, orang sini cuek abis soal setel musik keras2. They just don’t care what their neighbors will say. Trus, tetangga2 juga cuek2 aja tuh, ga ada yang complain. Mungkin karena weekend kali ya? Kata the guy in undies, it’s okay asal sebelum jam 10 malem.

Ternyata pantai tu ga jauh dr rumah mereka. Kira2 10-15 menit jalan. Dan, lagi2 aku amazed ama their ‘I-just-don’t-care-about-anything-so-what’ behaviour. Some of them ga pake sandal i.e. nyeker doang, some of them ga pake kaos, and the guy in undies cuma put on his t-shirt aja (Kenapa sih dia ga pake shorts-nya??!!)

Bandel tapi hatinya baek2 semua sih… They made me laugh a lot… They are anyway 6-9 years younger than I am (Gosh! I am so old!).

Begitu sampe di rumah, the party is officially over. I called a taxi to go home. They took a shower, get ready to sleep or to start studying again. Oh, for those of you who might be wondering what I was doing while they were being so crazy and all… well, don’t worry guys, I kept my sanity and being a good girl. I sat on the side and just laughed at them a lot. I was their ‘mom’, keeping my eyes on them waktu nyebrang2 jalan, naroin es ketika dahi salah satu dr mereka entah kenapa luka (Dasar anak-anak bandel!!)... :D

Jam 10, a guy named Bruno came. He accompanied me buat ngurus visa. Semoga urusan visa lancar dan ga bermasalah.

Selesai urusan visa, aku balik lagi ke Rio’s office. Ketemu Juliana, a Brazilian girl I met during OFS-1. She’s a very nice girl, considering sebenernya kita kan ga deket2 dan ga kenal2 amat. Makan siang bareng dia dan temen deketnya. They are really nice people. Talking about normal things: guys, life, touristic areas, historical buildings etc.

Makan di one of the resto di daerah deket kantor. Emm, kayaknya emang business district gitu deh. Abis makan, sempet mampir di café kecil buat minum kopi. Aku baru tau kalo Juliana itu 30 years old. She doesn’t look like she’s 30. Dan ternyata di sini juga it is an issue if you’re in your late twenties and still single.

Anyway, aku cuma mau bilang, I had a great time today in Rio, spent time sama orang2 yang gue ga gitu kenal tp baek bgt sama gue. They told me that to survive this kinda life I’m living right now, I have to be very friendly with everybody, be talkative, and make as many friends as possible… And I totally agree with them.

Hi blog,

Hari ini hari terakhir di base. Udah say goodbye sama beberapa orang sejak hari kamis kemarin.

Hari ini lagi ga puasa. Makan siang sama Bruno dan Wilmar di tempat namanya casa Alemã, translated as German house. Tapi di sana makan Feijoada. Aneh ya, masak makanan Brazil tapi di german house.

Lagi berasa deket sama mereka bedua, teman2 yang baik hati.

Aduh, jadi sedih.

Aduh, berasa hampa banget. Lagi-lagi, aku sendirian. Minggu depan, I will be alone again.
Kembali ke situasi dimana : nobody cares, nobody knows me, nobody understands me… etc.

Sebenernya gpp, it’s okay. I have to get used to it. Cuma kadang, I wish that one person will stay… stay with me along the way. Cause I wish I can be heard, I wish I can be understood…

Ah, I better stop right now.. Sekarang yang penting belajar buat entrance test, that’s it that’s all.

You’re going away, and I am sad. We will miss you here. Tomorrow, after the job, I’ll teach you everything about pump. ‘Cause you’re going to be my boss someday, so therefore I want you to have good qualifications. I want that you pass your school. And then maybe, well, I hope, you got transferred here again.

Said by one of the pump operators

Touchy banget, I felt like crying right there and then… Untung masih bisa menahan diri…
Aduh hari ini bener2 deh. Ngerasain macem2.

Ternyata musti siapin cement mix plus other chemicals dulu.

My eyes got wet waktu lagi bediri2 di halaman tempat aku biasa kerja. Ga kerasa, minggu depan udah musti cabut. Ke Rio untuk ngurus visa, and then back to Macae.

Bayangin, pre-school cuma 2 bulan (pendek banget dibanding orang lain rata2) . Di Negara yang bahasanya gue ngga ngerti. Dan minggu depan udah musti entrance test. Kasarnya ginilah, kalo ga lulus tes... duh ga tau deh what's gonna happen... Huhuhu… tegang bo’… gimana nih…

Lalu, ditambah lagi, I hurt myself. Mungkin faktor capek dan banyak pikiran kali ya, jadinya ga ati2… Ceritanya aku mo bantu buka tutup pipa gitu and ternyata tutupnya berat, jauh dari yang gue expected it would be, jadinya jari ku sempet kepencet sedikit. Tapi ya, beneran deh, kalo benda berat, dan besi pula, semua efek jadi berlipat ganda. Jariku sakit banget dan bedarah gitu. (Padahal aku pake gloves, ngeri juga ngebayangin apa yang terjadi seandainya ga pake gloves). Untung sedia tensoplast. Jadi langsung dicuci, dikompres pake air (not a good idea sebenernya, soalnya air mengandung banyak bakteri but I couldn’t think of anything else) dan ditutup. Pronto. Langsung pake gloves lagi, back to work, and pretend seakan2 tidak terjadi apa2.

Yeah, itu deh worst part-nya. Kalo you get yourself hurt, you’ll be in trouble (dan juga orang yang bertanggung jawab sama kita). So, daripada urusan jadi panjang, mendingan diem2 aja deh…

Mungkin message pertama, never believe the first impression you get from a person kali ya… soalnya orang yang tadinya gue sempet sebel banget nget ternyata salah satu orang yang paling baek sama gue selama gue di sini.

Ga tau mau tulis apa lagi.
Maybe later gue akan update2 kabar lagi.
Oh, one more thing, doain yah teman2, semoga semua berjalan lancar: modul2, entrance test, my trip back to Macae, everything…
Update:
All the guys are going to operations tonight. There are two operations btw, one in Pilar, one in Carmapolis. And I’m not going. My manager doesn’t want me to go. He said he doesn’t want anything to happen to me or that I’ll get hurt.
Aduh barusan abis say goodbye with the guys that are going to a job in Pilar.

Ah, weekend sungguh cepat berlalu...
Baru ngerasain tidur di kasur lagi tadi pagi. Minggu ini betul2 capek. Nyaris tidur berdiri.
Tapi aku seneng2 aja.
Kalo yang capek cuma badan, ga masalah. Harus tidur dan makan yang banyak.

good nite everyone...

Lesson learned # 1
Jangan dengerin apa kata orang tentang orang lain. People talk all the time anyway. Trust your own judgment and act according to your own instinct. Even so, you still can be wrong.

Lesson learned # 2
People are never satisfied with their bosses, and they will always complain about different things. It’s normal.

Lesson learned # 3
The only way to enjoy job/field operations is to become friends with your team mates and be comfortable around them.

Aracaju

At this point, I have to say, I’m happy to be here, in Aracaju.

I’m staying in an apartment with 2 girls who are really really nice. They both speak English very well and always consider me whenever they are planning in going out or doing things together.

My mentor, the cementing engineer here, is a fun person. A bit ‘loco’ I should say. :)
He makes jokes all the time, which makes my day seem brighter.

My manager here is also nice. He is helpful and cares a lot about me.
I don’t get to meet him too often these days, he is very very busy.

And the most important thing, I’m enjoying every job (field operations) that I went too. I feel like I understand more and more; I get to know the guys (the crews) better and start to feel comfortable being with them (and I hope they feel the same way about me).
Alhamdulillah, aku ga merasa terintimidasi lagi sama mereka.

Thanks so so much, God.

Oh, I don’t wanna go back to Macae. I hope my boss there will let me stay here longer.
P.S.
A special thanks to a pumptruck operator in Aracaju, yang awalnya gue ga suka karena kasar, ga sabaran trus nyolot bgt. Ternyata dia sabar banget nerangin tentang pump sama gue, berusaha pake portuguese yang sesimple2nya dan rela ngulang berkali2 sampe gue ngerti. Makasih yaaa... you've made my day...

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

active participation in safety meeting, meaning: present a topic related to safety in front of everybody... the bosses, the engineers, the crews... in Portuguese.
(It doesn't make any sense to do it in english, cause the crews won't understand)

OMG, I feel like crying huhuhu... I'm just going to humiliate myself there... in front of EVERYBODY...
They will laugh at me for sure. It's going to be a big joke.
Why this has to happen again? I thought BASF was going to be the first and the last.

I am registered for school starting October 22nd.
My boss in Macae emailed me telling me to increase all efforts so that I can be ready at that time.
I don’t have much time.
Bruno had 6 months of pre-school.
Alessandra had 5 months.
I would have only 2,5 months.
But, pls pls pls God… I don’t want my school to be delayed…
I hope I can pass the entrance test and go to school according to that schedule.
I just want to end this intimidation as soon as possible.

My sister's writing.
Proud of you, sis. Love.

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

My papers are ready. I took them yesterday from the Jakarta office.
Said goodbye to Pak Dicky and Bu Kris. Don't know when I'll see them again.
I owe both of them a lot. Thank you so much... for the help, for the advice, for everything.
So, today I actually have lots of things to do.
Pack my luggage. Organize my room. Send emails. Make some phone calls. Visit some people.
And I am in a bad mood :(
Oh, I hope this won't last long. I don't wanna leave Indo in this kind of feeling...
Anyway...

I really like to listen to this song: Dream a little dream of me by Michael Buble

Stars shining bright above you, night breezes seem to whisper, "I love you".
Birds singing in the sycamore tree, "Dream a little dream of me".
Say "nighty-night" and kiss me.
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me.
While I'm alone and blue as can be, dream a little dream of me.

Stars fading, but I linger on, dear.
Still craving your kiss, I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear.
Just saying this: Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you.
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you.
But in your dreams whatever they be, dream a little dream of me.

Oh, let's don't get too melancholic.
I wish that my mood will improve and things will seem brighter soon.

Edensor

Abis baca "Edensor", another book by Andrea Hirata.
Bagus....
Jadi pengen baca buku selanjutnya: Maryamah Karpov.

Oh btw, dua hari lagi release buku ke 7 Harry Potter.
I just can't wait to finally know the ending...

Published!

I have another blog! It's official now. :)
Bosen gue, minima dark mulu :(
Not sure whether this will be a good idea in a long term... abisnya blog2ku yang lain2 banyakan mati suri semua, kecuali yang satu ini.
Hmm... let's just see.

Please feel free to look around!! And don't forget to give your comments!!!

From the movie The Two Towers

...
ÉOWYN:
Women of this country learned long ago: Those without swords may still die upon them. I fear neither death nor pain.
ARAGORN:
What do you fear, my lady?
ÉOWYN:
A cage. To stay behind bars until use and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire.

Sejujur-jujurnya…
I just can’t get along well with her!
I can’t understand why…
Is it my fault? Is it her fault? Or is it nobody’s fault and simply a clash of different personalities…?
I don’t know what to do to make our relationship better.
I’m sorry… but I’m being honest here… :(

The still-single manager said,

"I don’t believe in the balance between work and family life. It’s either you’re more to work or more to your family. At some points, you just have to sacrifice something."

Hmm, I suppose that comes from his personal experience…??

Basil Valdez - You

You give me hope,
The strength, the will to keep on;
No one else can make me feel this way
And only you
Can bring out all the best I can do;
I believe you turn the tide
And make me feel real good inside.

You pushed me up
When I'm about to give up;
You're on my side when no one seems to listen
And if you go,
You know the tears can't help but show
You'll break this heart and tear it apart;
Then suddenly the madness starts

CHORUS:
It's your smile,
Your face, your lips that I miss,
Those sweet little eyes that stare at me
And make me say,
I'm with you through all the way.

'Cause it's you
Who fills the emptiness in me;
It changes ev'rything, you see,
When I know I've got you with me

You pushed me up
When I'm about to give up;
You're on my side when no one seems to listen
And if you go,
You know the tears can't help but show
You'll break this heart and tear it apart;
Then suddenly the madness starts

CHORUS:
It's your smile,
Your face, your lips that I miss,
Those sweet little eyes that stare at me
And make me say,
I'm with you through all the way.

'Cause it's you
Who fills the emptiness in me;
It changes ev'rything, you see,
When I know I've got you with me.

It's your smile,
Your face, your lips that I miss,
Those sweet little eyes that stare at me
And make me say,
I'm with you through all the way.

'Cause it's you
Who fills the emptiness in me;
It changes ev'rything, you see,
When I know I've got you with me.

Gazebo - I like Chopin

In confusion, I sort of find a reason, or a motivation, to leave. I am not at home yet. I got to find my home, I must find him… And I’m crossing my fingers; hopefully we’ll meet someday, at the right time and place…

Remember that piano
So delightful unusual
That classic sensation
Sentimental confusion

BRIDGE:
Used to say
I like Chopin
Love me now and again

CHORUS:
Rainy days never say goodbye
To desire when we are together
Rainy days growing in your eyes
Tell me where's my way

Imagine your face
In a sunshine reflection
A vision of blue skies
Forever distractions

Back to BRIDGE

Back to CHORUS

I like Chopin - Gazebo

Lagi suka lagu ini, lagu jaman 80-an.

I watched Amélie… again…
Uhh... I really love it…

It made me think that:

--> Life’s greatest pleasures are often found in simple things (for Amélie that means plunging fingers deep into a sack of grains or throwing pebbles into water)

--> Life can turn to be very unexpected sometimes, so I must always be ready for the surprises

--> Let’s believe in good karma; what goes around, comes around…

--> Some people may see the things that she did to the guy in the film as weird, but I personally think they are sweet…

I love the film mainly because of the simplicity of the story and the setting (it's Paris...) It is romantic in its own way, and it has a different sense of humor.
For me, the best scene is actually the last one, the ending… when they are on a bicycle… love it love it love it…
P.S. The soundtrack's great too!

Sang Pemimpi by Andrea Hirata

"...orang seperti kita tak punya apa-apa kecuali semangat dan mimpi-mimpi, dan kita akan bertempur habis-habisan demi mimpi-mimpi itu!!"
"Tanpa mimpi, orang seperti kita akan mati..."
"Mungkin setelah tamat SMA kita hanya akan mendulang timah atau menjadi kuli, tapi di sini Kal, di sekolah ini, kita tak akan pernah mendahului nasib kita!!"

(Sang Pemimpi, Andrea Hirata, hal. 153)

"Seperti halnya keburukan, kebaikan pun seringkali berbuah kebaikan. Dan satu kebaikan kecil kerap pula menyebabkan perubahan demikian besar."
(Sang Pemimpi, Andrea Hirata, hal. 184)
Oh, and I have to mention that both books come from true stories.
It is how you react to failure that is very important.
How you deal with it, to gather your strength to stand up again.
Without knowing how to do that, it is impossible to be successful.

(a successful Swiss media tycoon, namanya lupa, nonton di tv)

CSR Expo

Kemaren aku ke pameran tentang CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Nemenin Kak Netta, dia perlu buat kerjaan kantornya. Walaupun rada males, tapi terpaksa pergi juga. Sampe sana, Kak Netta langsung memisahkan diri, berhubung dia punya mission mau ketemu beberapa orang.

Oh well, tapi ternyata lumayan juga.

Mungkin aku yang telat tau, but anyway, nice to know that.

Waktu aku lagi isi buku tamu, and as I was writing my name, I heard someone said: “Indriana Jones…”
Ternyata… Kang Salman!! I was so surprised!
Kang Salman tu, dulunya pelatih PMRtiga waktu aku SMA. Kapan ya terakhir ketemu, kelas 3 SMA mungkin?! Udah lama banget.
Dan emang dia yang came up with that joke of Indriana Jones :P
Tapi yang memalukan, saking kagetnya, aku melakukan gesture yang salah, I pinched his arm! Duh, kayaknya keganjenan banget ga sih!?

Aduh, jadi inget masa-masa PMRtiga. Kadang suka ga percaya juga kalo dipikir2 I used to be an active member of an organization yang hampir semua orang2nya sangaaat idealis.
Jadi ngobrol-ngobrol tentang renewable energy dan diterangin tentang his latest project in the company.

Well, in the end, it was quite nice. I had fun looking around.

Setelah berminggu-minggu ga pernah jogging,
Tiba-tiba aja… sore ini gue pengen jogging.
Persiapan sih matang banget, baju dan sepatu olahraga dah matching.
Ga lupa si creative diisi ama lagu-lagu pilihan… maksudnya biar larinya tambah semangat gitu…
Pas mau berangkat, Ibu dan Mbak Yani memandang heran... kok tumben-tumbenan...
Setelah lari-lari santai 15 menit,
dan udah lumayan jauh dari rumah,
dan gue udah ngos-ngosan pengen berenti dan mau jalan...
Tiba-tiba hujan turun...
Yah...
Mula-mula kecil... lama-lama tambah deras...
Terpaksa pulang sambil lari…
Mana disorakin anak-anak kecil gitu pas lewat lapangan bola...
Sampe rumah basah kuyup…
Dan Mbak Yani ngetawain gue abis-abisan sampe keluar air mata…
Duh, sial banget!!!

The top 8 show

I'm going to say something about this.
I can't say which one is my favourite, 'cause I'm not a fan of one contestant, but of many!
I just want to point out that I really like this guy's performance tonight.
He sang one of my favourite songs and tonight he looked so cute!
(I just realize that this week!)
okay...okay, his vocal may not be the best... but that doesn't matter!
I hope he'll stay tomorrow!!

Honestly guys...
Rasanya pengen banget protes, complain...

Padahal, kita kan ga tau what that person has been through.

I'm now at the border between holding back and speaking up.
Which one is better?

So long, Om Sony...

It was Thursday, March 15, 2007.
Dad was at home. His stomach ulcer was giving him a hard time, and it was his second day off from work.
I went with Mom in the afternoon to check on some furniture stores; I need a book shelf for my room.About 3 pm, Dad called, telling us that Om Sony had been taken to hospital; he had a stroke early in the morning. “His condition has worsened,” he said.

Mom and I reached RS Pusat Pertamina at about 5 pm.
Tante Rina looked so pale. She whispered weakly to my ear: “Indri, your uncle’s condition is bad. Please pray for him.”
A few minutes later, Tante Rina told me that the doctors told her that Om Sony must undergo an operation. Without operation, he had no chance to survive. If the operation succeeded, only 10-15% of his brain would still function. But, considering the condition of his heart and kidney, the risk of operation is very high.

I couldn’t say anything. I believe that God can perform any miracle and that only God knows what’s best for Om Sony. I could only pray that God will give the best for my beloved uncle, whatever the best actually means.

About 5.30 pm, we were allowed to meet Om Sony. One by one, each of us took turns, while Tante Rina stayed inside the room, beside him. He was unconscious. Too much blood had spilled into his brain.

Shortly after 6 pm, Tante Rina burst out and told us how worried she was. The ICU door was left open. At that moment I could see the doctors were trying to pump his heart. It has stopped beating. Tante Rina, Kak Tessa, Tante Yaya and I went in.
We stood there, about a meter from Om Sony. Looking at him, trying to let him know how we really love him...
And he passed away. At 6.10 pm.
My most beloved uncle, my second Dad.

I couldn’t sleep that night. I’d been crying a lot. I asked myself: “What am I crying for?”
He’s in a much better place now.
He’s no longer in pain.
He’s sleeping peacefully, waiting to be buried, and to be with the Creator.
This is the answer of our prayers: Allah has chosen the best path for my uncle.

So I shouldn’t feel sad.
But there’s another feeling that I can’t deny, and that is regret.
I regret that I didn’t spend more time with him after my return from Hamburg.
I regret that I didn’t hug Om Sony the last time we said goodbye, which was on Wednesday, a day before this all happened.
I regret that I didn’t have the chance to return his kindness… for he has been so kind and caring…
I couldn’t even treat him a nice lunch or dinner together yet… for I haven’t got my first salary.

Life goes on. I will miss you so much Om Sony.
I will cherish all the beautiful memories I had of you.

I was 8 years old… a picnic with you and Tante Rina at Kebun Raya Bogor…
I was 9… a picnic to Puncak to Yangti’s villa. I urgently needed to go to the toilette, digestion problem…traffic jam… you and Tante Rina tried to comfort me… you told me to put a rubber band around my toe, that might help…
I was (maybe 11, not sure), you took Kak Netta and me to watch Indiana Jones at Dynasty. You accidentally wore your t-shirt inside-out. We laughed at you, and you took off your t-shirt and wore it again correctly, in front of everyone at the cinema… you’re truly one of a kind…
I was at Junior high school, so busy with PMR and having crushes… you often teased me… I still couldn’t understand how you know their names…
Nice food at your place… always… and sometimes I felt so full that I just had to unbutton or unzip my pants. You told me that next time I better wear training pants…

…

It was beginning of 2004; I was in my room on Grumbrechtstrasse, reading an email from you. You told me that you were very sorry but you had to cancel your plan of visiting me in Germany. You must have a heart surgery (your second one). I was shocked. I prayed that everything will be okay and that I want to meet you again. I want to meet you after I finish my study.

And God has fulfilled my prayer that night… I thank God that I can meet you again in Jakarta…

So long Om Sony…

You were a wonderful person…for all your friends and colleagues…
A very special husband, uncle, brother, son, for all of us, your family…
Very full of life, funny, very passionate about your job…
Very kind and caring…

I pray that Allah will always bless and take good care of you, and of Tante Rina.

Good mood

Hmm… mood hari ini sedang bagus… Jarang kan mood bagus nge-blog, biasanya kalo pas lagi bete aja...

First, I got a friendly email from the recruiter, advising me to study the language.

Second, a dear old friend sent me a message… It’s been a while, miss him so much, miss having him around.

Third, I read a book: Beauty Case. I like the book a lot. I’ve read two books from her so far (the other one is Cintapuccino) and I like both of them!! I like her way of writing, how she described the feelings felt by the characters in the book. The fact that she’s more or less my age (she was born in 1978) affects too. I can understand the jokes better :D (Yeah, we’re the 80s-90s generation :P) It is a chicklit. But, the plot in this book is not that simple and is quite hard to guess.

Fourth, had a chat with a friend, heard a very very good news (the keyword is: engagement), got excited, and am sooo happy for them.

Thank You, thanks so much for everything...

Old treasures

Made me realize a few things:
  • I have a lot of diaries… Dan ternyata aku suka banget curhat! Geez, kalo dikumpul2in, bisa jadi buku kali! :“>
  • Sebelum ama Rakhmat (especially jaman2 SMP dan SMA), aku sering banget naksir-naksir cowok!! Trus yang kayaknya naksir banget gitu lagi! Idih, malu-maluin deh!! :D
  • Reading my past writings, I can picture my self back then as being insecure, shy, and unconfident. I am happy to say that now I feel much better about myself. I believe that one of the greatest feelings is when someone is able to love him/herself wholly, and be grateful with everything he/she has.
No, I’m not there yet. I'm working on it. I hope and pray that I can be a better person each day.
(I still keep those writings, to use them as a reminder in the future…)

Der Untergang

Abis nonton Downfall aka Der Untergang.

Suka bertanya-tanya ga sih, kok bisa sih ada someone as evil as Hitler? It will ruin your mood. Perasaan yang ada setelah ke sana: sick.

My conclusion was that Hitler must be a mad man. No sane human being would ever do such things. However, it should be kept in mind that Hitler was not alone in it. There were hundreds of thousands of German armies who did the dirty works for him. It was his troops (ranging from Generals to the low-rank soldiers) that perform the mass-murders and tortures in the camps. Furthermore, there were millions of German citizens that put him into power in first place. Were they all deceived by Hitler’s charisma and propaganda?

In the film, Hitler’s last days were described by his secretary, Traudl Junge. Her impression of Hitler at that time was someone polite, fatherly and caring, who loved his dog so much, a vegetarian who despised eating meat, a non-smoker.
It is true that evil can be very deceiving and seem ideally beautiful.

There are some commentaries on the film which I found worth-quoting (I copied them from Wikipedia):

Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert wrote[3]:
"Admiration I did not feel. Sympathy I felt in the sense that I would feel it for a rabid dog, while accepting that it must be destroyed. I do not feel the film provides "a sufficient response to what Hitler actually did," because I feel no film can, and no response would be sufficient."
"As we regard this broken and pathetic Hitler, we realize that he did not alone create the Third Reich, but was the focus for a spontaneous uprising by many of the German people, fueled by
racism, xenophobia, grandiosity and fear. He was skilled in the ways he exploited that feeling, and surrounded himself by gifted strategists and propagandists, but he was not a great man, simply one armed by fate to unleash unimaginable evil. It is useful to reflect that racism, xenophobia, grandiosity and fear are still with us, and the defeat of one of their manifestations does not inoculate us against others."

Director Oliver Hirschbiegel confirmed that the film's makers sought to give Hitler a three-dimensional personality. "We know from all accounts that he was a
very charming man—a man who managed to seduce a whole people into barbarism."[4]

"From birth to eighteen a girl needs good parents. From eighteen to thirty-five she needs good looks. From thirty-five to fifty-five, a woman needs personality; and from fifty-five on the old lady needs cash."

This and That

Kamis tanggal 11 Januari, setelah sholat Shubuh, Opa, Mom’s stepfather, died at the age of 86.

Jumat, had medical check up at this hospital in Setiabudi Building. Gosh, such an experience. Everything was checked from top to bottom (exaggerating :P)

Tante Tati and Om John arrived and they are going to stay in Cinere for the next couple of weeks. I’m glad to meet them again. Tante Tati is as cheerful and positive as she has always been..

We had tahlilan in Kayumanis on Friday, and I got to see many of my relatives there. Looking back, in the last 15 years, Kak Netta and I were not as close anymore with Opa as we used to when we were little kids. But I do remember, Opa taught me to ride bicycle and I used to sit on his laps when I was very little.

Saturday, I went with Tante Tati and Om John to Stasiun Kota. It was a great trip and I had lots of fun. I put the story of the trip in this blog.

Saturday night, we went again to Kayumanis. I feel more and more attached to this family (Mom’s family). This kind of feeling would never have developed if I keep on staying in Germany.

Sunday, I went with Dad to PIM, to look for a present for Om Sony. He’ll have his birthday on Tuesday the 16th.

There’s a good thing of having so many family visits and gatherings these days. I can keep my mind off the result of the medical check up that I just had.
