Fatal Accident

Wanna share this one with you all.

There has been an accident with fatality at my location. An accident in a cementing job.

The guy was a client, happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

And an equipment unstabled by the muddy ground beneath it, toppled and fell on top of him. A 2-meter 4-ton surge tank.

He passed away, on the spot. The surge tank hit him exactly on his neck and head.

The Engineer In Charge of the Project had to flew together with the body from Kalimantan and deliver it to his family in Cirebon. I can’t imagine how he was able to face the guy’s children.

The Supervisors of the job had to stay for some nights at local prison. Police said it’s to protect them from the locals that got angry from the incident.

Not to mention the responsibility and the investigation that my managers have to put up with now.

-----

It could have been me; either as the victim, as the supervisor, as the Engineer-In-Charge, or as the manager.

With all the twists and turns of life, I’ve been assigned in another project, handling other client.

------

In the safety stand down we had today, my manager showed a very disturbing picture of the victim. There, crushed under the surge tank, in such position, in a red coverall, only his chest to his legs are visible.

She explained, she prefers that we see this picture from our own management, as this disturbing picture has already been circulated in some other company’s mailing lists.

On a different note, I kinda admire her; she looked so though facing and dealing with this situation. If I were her, I would be too shocked to think and act properly.

------

Stop complaining, stop being stressed. Stop being too self-centered. Stop making fuss on the small things. We are so blessed with the life we have now. Let’s cherish life, be grateful with what life has given us, and tell the people you love how much you love them.
